FLUID 2022
Installation view at the “Fire & Water” exhibition curated by Michelle Dock for Tempe Center for the Arts, Tempe, Arizona.
Upcycled fabric, thread and wood.
Fluid, gesturally represents a stream of water made of fiber coils coursing through suspended wooden hoops. Drawing inspiration from the Rio Salado, the body of water that serves our Phoenix community, I reflect on water usage and management in our desert environment. In some places it appears, and in other places it disappears – a powerful force of nature that has been tamed in the hands of humans. And yet despite our highly-controlled management, which eventually leads the water to our faucets, our orange groves, and our cotton fields, it retains its magic.
