DISPUTED TERRITORIES – DISPUTED BODIES 2019
Installation views from the Counter-Landscapes Exhibition, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA.
Wood, paint, felt, cotton yarn, and thread.
The series, commissioned by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art for the Counter-Landscapes exhibition curated by Jennifer McCabe, is part of a multifaceted project, that incorporates drawings, sculptures, and soft extensions for the body. Drawings and sculptures with map-like qualities lead to larger soft sculptures of coiled felt that further divide the space into fictional zones, asking visitors to navigate around them. Throughout the project, the work alludes to the ways in which both landscapes and bodies can be contested sites.
This body of work was supported by a Research and Development Grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts with funding from the Newton and Betty Rosenzweig Fund for the Arts.
